In BUY (2019), the relationship between desire, visual seduction, and the mechanisms that drive consumption becomes evident. From the passive viewer to the active buyer, the transition occurs subtly, almost programmed, while numbers and algorithms record each choice, transforming individuals into data, patterns, and market predictions. The consumer, seduced by strategically constructed images, is simultaneously subject and object—captured by a system that turns them into merchandise.

Advertising, omnipresent and invasive, projects previously non-existent needs and induces consumption without leaving room for questioning. What defines the value of an object—its functionality or the concept that surrounds it? Between small, medium, and large "luxuries," rampant production feeds the cycle of disposal, making obsolete what was once desire. Excess not only accumulates as material waste but also redefines the very perception of value.

BUY (2019) questions the dehumanization of consumption and the colonial logic of disposal, where underdeveloped countries become depositories of technological and agricultural excess. Just like electronic waste, pesticides banned in the Global North are dumped in the Global South, exposing the hidden face of digital capitalism: a cycle where desire and waste go hand in hand.

Moreover, advertising shapes aspirations and desires, inducing consumption even of what destroys us. Art (advertising), often appropriated as a tool to illustrate this desire, creates an aesthetic imaginary that disguises the toxicity of what is sold. The addiction to consumption expands to harmful substances, normalized by campaigns that sell experiences instead of products. Between planned obsolescence and the compulsion for the new, the consumer gets lost in a labyrinth with no exit.
